Tensioned Roller Blinds
Whilst we like living and working in large, attractive, light spaces, it is necessary to reduce the solar glare and heat gain so that they are comfortable environments. Tensioned roller blinds can do this in a way that doesn’t detract from the design of the building but actually enhances it.
Tensioned roller blinds can be fitted either internally or externally to roof glazing. When the blinds are deployed, the heat absorbed by the fabric is added to the heat transmitted. The choice of fabric helps dictate the efficiency of this type of system but it is about 40% for an interior tensioned roller blind.
Tensioned roller blinds are fully tensioned at all times and this enables them to run horizontally, vertically or to travel along an incline. Our system can be shaped triangular to accommodate difficult glazing shapes and can have a draw of up to 5 metres and still totally retract for a discreet flush finish. The overall effect is a clean and taut fabric blind. We have a wide range of fabrics and colours available that retain outward vision (although blackout fabrics are also available if required).
Tensioned roller blinds require automatic control. The system is streamlined, cost effective and can operate at any angle. Housed in a compact single tube, this allows for flexible mounting.
The blinds can be operated individually or as groups. Sun sensors, time programmes, or linking into the building management system mean help ensure that the system achieves its optimum performance level. The additional benefits include that with this system, heat loss from the building at night can be reduced, thus improving its energy efficiency.
Examples of our work include the Institute of Contemporary Arts, Pall Mall and Thornwood Gardens, Kensington.
