Chain Lath

These beautiful wooden blinds were originally designed for greenhouses as a vital yet attractive way of regulating temperature. Fitted to the exterior of a glass roof building, Chain Lath is now as decorative as it is functional.

Style

Milled on site from Western Red Cedar (a sustainable wood source), our Chain Lath is a natural golden brown which weathers down to a lovely silver grey. As it is naturally rot and fungus resistant, no finish is necessary.

  • These blinds create a cool, shady atmosphere by filtering sunlight but can also be used to conserve heat at night or in the winter
  • Our chain lath system will provide in excess of 70% shading from outside the glass which controls the heat inside to the same extent as 98% shading
  • Elegant and versatile, chain lath is now also used ever increasingly in the fashionable area of glass roofed structures including conservatories and indoor swimming pools
  • Popular with leading glass structure companies, Tidmarsh´s Chain Lath has featured at the Chelsea Flower Show on an exceptional glasshouse designed by Alitex
  • Robust enough to withstand moderate winds, they also give effective protection (& noise reduction) against hailstones

Operation

Our chain lath has been designed to be virtually maintenance free which is an important consideration for in inaccessible places. All installation work is done outside which leaves the inside clear of fittings and obstructions. It is cord operated with solid copper rings which unlike split rings do not break open.

Uniquely, Tidmarsh have recently developed a motorised operating system for chain lath which gives trouble free operation:

  • Via a switch inside the building
  • Or fully automated to deploy the chain lath automatically at a set sun light level which keeps the internal space cool at all times

Tidmarsh have recently completed projects with royal residences and the National Trust using our beautiful Chain Lath.
